Today in class we went over our final exams and got our final grades for the one month intensive course. At first the test was given back and I was freaking out because I had missed the whole concept on the last pages so I missed 10 points, which was about 1/3 of the total for that section of the test. On the other section of the test, I did very well, but my final grade DID include both sections. Later in class we got our final grades back and I ended up with an 8 in the class, out of 10 possible points. The 8 should transfer back to Winona as an A. I am pleased with the grade that I got but I wish i could have done a little better, for my own sake, on the exam.
After we got our tests back, Susana put in a movie for the rest of the time. The movie was called Tesis and was actually remade into an English movie after someone saw the movie in Spanish and liked it so much. The movie, in my opinion, was very disturbing and quite gross... to the degree where I left after watching about 30 minutes of it.
On my walk home I bought my mom's shoes and thankfully they had the right size! When I got home, Rachael was there and we finished our last minute packing. We ended up having an extra hour before we had to leave so we just sat around and hoped and prayed that we did not forget to pack something major! Eventually it was time for lunch and relatively soon after finished we were out the door and on our way to our first adventure. Sam met us outside the apartment complex and we walked to the bu stop about 2 to 3 blocks away. We took the bus to the bus station where we got on another bus to go to Malaga. On the bus to Malaga there were amazing views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and of the country side with lots of hills and olive tree farms. I attempted to sleep on the bus, because it was during siesta hour, but I couldn't manage to fall asleep :/ Soon enough we were in Malaga and at the bus station, to catch yet ANOTHER bus! This time we took the bus to the airport. We had to wait around 15 minutes before boarding this bus. When we got to the airport we had to wait an hour and a half for the check in gate to open - we wanted to be early and wait than be late and rushed - and it was quite the long wait because there is nothing to do before you go through security. We ate dinner when we were sitting there; Mila had packed us a dinner, bocadillos (sandwiches thats half a baguette with ham and cheese and butter) and an apple. She also packed us a juice box, pineapple, but I managed to drink that on the bus and spill all over myself in the process. There also was a dessert that was similar to Magdelenas, the delicious muffins that are lemon flavored.
We eventually got to the desk where we had to weigh our luggage. The maximum amount you can carry on is 10 kg; my suitcase weighed 10 kg and would waver to 10.5 kg occasionally Luckily they let it pass and did not make me check my bag for an additional fee.
We had to sit around some more to wait for our boarding time so we wandered the airport and watched other people board their planes. We realized that Spaniards like to line up before boarding time and make a huge snake around the section. We don't understand that concept because although you get on the plane faster, you also have to sit on the stuffy plane longer. Who knows! We boarded the plane and we were off to Barcelona, the place of our connecting flight and night's stay.
We landed in Barcelona on time at about 10:40 and we took a bus to the city center. From there we walked about 2 blocks to our hostel for the night, the Barcelona Youth Hostel. This is set up of the room, 5 beds total, as well as the view from the balcony that was attached to the room.
We pretty much just went to the hostel to rest our heads because we didn't want to stay in the airport. We got ready for bed and hit the sack because we had to wake up early the next day to catch our flight to Venice!
