When we went down to breakfast, it was pretty packed figuring that about one whole coach bus was down there, and another was coming. Breakfast had an assortment of breads with butter and jams, meats and cheeses, cereal, fruit, juices, and a coffee maker! Rachael and I both took advantage of the free coffee and got cappuccinos. We stocked up on our food because we knew that it was going to be a while until we had the opportunity to eat our lunches and because we weren't going to be having a big lunch.
After breakfast Rachael and I got ready and then we went down to Katie, Ruth, and Michael's room so we could make our sammies. When I opened the peanut butter jar I was in heaven and I even licked the foil top part because I was excited for peanut butter. One deprivation Spaniards have! We packed up our lunches and then went downstairs for our meeting time at 10:30.
When we got downstairs, we heard that the meeting time changed from 10:30 to 11, so we just sat there and used the wifi. Eventually it was 11, and we all boarded up the buses to head off to the top of the grottos, which we had seen the day before in the water.
It was a beautiful location! Like nothing else, straight from a postcard. Here are some of the many pictures that I had taken.
When our time was up at the top of the grottos, we loaded up the buses again and we were off to Meia Praia (praia is beach in portuguese). The bus ride was about 20 minutes long and the beach was located near the pier that we were at yesterday for our sangria cruise. The bus stopped in the parking lot area so we had to walk to the beach and man was it windy! People's hats were blowing off and my hair was all over the place. It was a beautiful day but the wind was killer.
The walk started in hard, crusty sand, then changed to a board walk and eventually we were on really fine sand which was super white and comfortable. We passed a bar on the boardwalk which is where the bathrooms would be located and where you could buy food for lunch if you wanted to. We set up camp on the beach and bared all in the wind. It was a bit cool and it would nip you at first but eventually we got used to it and sucked it up because the sun was pounding down so hard and it was intense.
On the bus they announced that there would be free sangria, so we just waited around for it to be made. Rachael noticed that they had balls, soccer and volleyball, and she went and took a soccer ball. We kicked that around for a bit waiting for the sangria. It was nice to play soccer but the ball was a little flat and it would sting when you kicked it because of the sand and the flatness mixed together. Soon enough, the sangria was ready and we went and got our cups. Throughout the day we would go and fill them up and enjoy the day on the beach.
We spent the whole day at the beach relaxing, except for one small issue. The wind would blow the sand into you (same situation as in Almeria, Spain) and it was painful. We moved our towels down closer to the water line and that helped, except that the sand was wet. And the tide was rising. So we had to keep moving them up more and more and more because I didn't want my towel to get wet again like the day before.
Around 4:30 in the afternoon it was time to go back to the hotel because we had to get ready for the end of the world at 7! We packed up our things and we loaded up on the buses. When we got back to the hotel Rachael and I got took speedy showers and rushed to get ready. My hair was a mess because I straightened it when it was still wet and it was a poof ball. We hoped that the wind would fix it, not knowing the amount of wind there was going to be at the end of the world.
Our bus ride here was about 40 minutes long and we started to watch a movie but we only got about 30 minutes into it until we arrived! The end of the world is called the end of the world because way back back when it was thought that this is where the sun dropped off and there was nothing else to world. The name of the area was called Cabo San Vincente. We went there for the sunset, and it was UBER windy, and I only took 2 pictures because I was so cold, but thankfully Rachael was on top of things and taking pictures, so here are more of her pictures :)
After we watched the sunset with the wind blowing everywhere and my hair whipping anyone who was near me, Sorry! we went back on our buses. We tried to watch more of the movie but it wasn't working so instead we just listened to music. The buses were nice enough to drop us off downtown because it was already 9 pm and we were all hungry! Rachael and I booked it off the bus to go to Rockafella's (American style restaurant) and good thing we did because there was a huge group that walked in behind us!
I ordered some BBQ ribs and fries and Rachael got Portugese style prawns. I didn't get fish because we only had a certain menu to pick from and the prawns was the only fish option. Also once I saw that there was ribs, I had my mind made up! The sauce was made up of Jack Daniel's which was something that I have never tried before, but they were really really good and I ate it all!
Throughout dinner we were watching the Chicago Bulls and Brooklyn Nets play basketball. They went into TRIPLE overtime! We stayed until about 30 seconds was left in the third overtime and Chicago was ahead, so we are just going to assume that they won. It was a crazy intense game and it was really fun to watch American sports!
By the time that we left Rockafella's it was already 11. The club for tonight opened up at 10:30 so we headed over there. One of the girls at the bar showed us on a map where to go and we memorized the streets and we were off. We also had the huge group of people following us there, so we definitely couldn't get lost. We find it in no time with no troubles at all, and we were there, Joe's Garage.
When we walked in we got a free mixed drink coupon or free beer bong and a free beer or free shot. Rachael and I each ordered a screwdriver with a shot of vodka on the side, keeping our liquor the same. We spent the rest of the night dancing away. Rachael and Michael left sooner than I wanted to go so I stayed back with Oscar (one of the directors), Liz, Michael and Ruth. We stayed at Joe's until probably about 2 am and then we headed back to the hotel.
On the walk back Oscar told us a bunch of crazy stories about people who have done trips in the past and some were scary but some were purely hilarious! When we got back to the hotel, we stayed in the lobby and went on the wifi, and Rachael came downstairs (I thought she was sleeping!) and then eventually made our way up to Sam and Liz's room to hang out for the rest of the night. Rachael stayed in the lobby to talk with her boyfriend and when I was going to bed at 3:30 she was still in the lobby! I went to her for the key because the room was locked and then I went to bed.
It was a rough night but we got through it! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
