I forgot to mention in my last blog post that we gave Mila our gifts. Rachael gave her a book about Minnesota and a bag of wild rice; I gave her a book about Wisconsin, Packer coasters and a calendar with pictures of the United States.
Last night for dinner we had salad, tortillas (eggs) with ham and cheese. We thought it was going to be tortillas like in America but it was similar to omelets. After dinner we did the usual of sitting around the dinner table for about an hour talking about our day and random things that came into mind. Mila served us sojas, which are similar to peanuts that are salted. We went to bed at about 12:00 midnight.
In the morning we had the usual breakfast with juice, cereales and tea for Rachael. After breakfast Mila walked us to the Centro de Modernas Lenguajes building A for our placement test. Everyone in our group passed the test so we all get Spanish credit for our classes, assuming that we pass our classes in the semester. After the placement test, German handed out the cellphones and we discussed the procedures for school. Then Isabel (another director) gave us a tour of the school and showed us building K. The building is in a gorgeous location on the hillside with orange trees in the courtyard and bushes trimmed into the shapes of circles and stars. The building is white with a gold trim around the edges.
After the tour of the school we were done for the day and Rachael and I decided to walk around and get lost a little bit. The architecture and graffiti amused me so I took many pictures of it. All the streets were very steep and slanted because we were so high up.
When we returned home, Rachael and I went to the Parque Federico Garcia Lorca (the one in the pictures in the previous blog post) for a jog and using the workout equipment in the park. It was a really nice day outside today and we ended up taking off our sweatshirts and walking around the park in our shirts. Mila made us lunch when we got back to the apartment and we had pan fried chicken with salad and platanos (bananas) and fresh bread. There is fresh bread at every meal, and I enjoy it thoroughly! Rachael and I enjoyed a long siesta today, without an alarm clock to wake us up.
When we woke up we went shopping because there are Rebajas, which are huge sales. They last about a month or 2 and are in every single store. It is like Black Friday but a longer period of time. I bought some tights, because that is what everyone wears here, a ring and some more necessities. It is hard to determine what you want to buy because there are so so many options and differentiations.
When we got back we checked our emails to see what building we are in for the classes. I am in building K, the beautiful one high up and I have class from 9 am to 1 pm every day. Rachael is in building A and starts class at 10. She is lucky! I am going to meet up with someone else who has class at 9 in building K so we can get lost together walking there. We then had dinner, ham and cheese patty with salad, bread, and banana yogurt. While we were sitting down talking after dinner the power went out, but this time it wasn’t our fault! The power has been out for about an hour now and we don’t know when it is going to come on. We are talking by candlelight.
Well I probably won’t be able to post this until tomorrow because the internet is out because the wifi is electrical so I am going to bed!
