We Fell Up the Stairs

Rachael and I woke up at 9 am this morning because today was the first day we met with the whole group to do an activity. We had a city tour! We ate breakfast at 10 am and we had cereal, orange juice, and tea. After breakfast, Mila (our host mom) walked us to the school's offices for our orientation and tour of the city. She wore heals and we were in awe because she is in her late 60's and the streets are not smooth. Similar to bricks or cobblestone. Impressive to say the least.

During the city tour, German (the program director) pointed out all of the main plazas and centros that Spaniards come together in and meet up. The city is very hustling and bustling all the time and people are aggressive walkers and do not care if you are walking straight. It slightly reminds me of New York.

After the tour Rachael and I returned home and walked up the stairs instead of using the elevator. We couldn't find the light switch (electricity is very expensive in Spain so the lights are not kept on at all times) and Rachael fell up the stairs and I almost peed my pants of laughter. The steps are also very slippery and it looks like they are made of marble. About 10 steps later, I fell up the stairs as well! HAHAHAHA.

After that embarrassing moment, we ate lunch. Mila made sana which is similar to lasagna but had a creamy sauce (not cheese) on the top and between the layers. We also had salad with olive oil, corn, and shavings of carrots. For desert we had an orange, but it tasted like a huge clementine! After lunch we took a siesta, a mid day nap, for about 30 minutes and woke up rejuvenated and energized!

Rachael and I started our workout regime today with running in the park (Parque Federico Garcia Lorca) that we found the day before. We also did a few workouts after returning home. We are determined to make this a routine, daily routine!

Wes, Rachael and I met up with Sam (who is also from Green Bay area) and Michael (the guy I flew with) at the bridge, to go shopping for a cellphone and other odds and ends. While waiting for them, I snapped these pictures of the city with the view from the bridge. These were taken at about 7 pm and the city is more than alive at this time!

I bought a pair of tights at el Corte Ingles (a store very similar to Younker's or Macy's) because that seems to be the thing that Spaniards wear. It was my first purchase of something that isn't related to a neccesity such as shampoo or conditioner.

We are now chilling in our room waiting for dinner to be ready. Its supposed to be tortillas with ham and cheese but Wes thinks it is eggs in Spanish. We will wait and see what happens.
