Sevilla, Espana

Today we had a group trip to Sevilla, Spain. In English, the town is called Seville.

Rachael and I woke up and ate breakfast, grabbed our bocadillos and walked to the bus stop. When we got there, we boarded the bus and we were off! It was a 3 hour ride to Sevilla from Granada and we made it there without stopping one time!

When we got into Sevilla, everything looked familiar because I was just there a few weeks prior to pick up students for the trip to Morocco. We went to our hotel, and put all of our bags in a luggage room because our rooms weren't ready yet. The hotel was a four star hotel with a ton of floors and it was beautiful inside!

Once we put all of our things away we began our tour. On the walk we talked about how there are a lot of bikers in Sevilla and that they have special lanes to bike in on the side walks and cross walks. They also have a special light to use when to cross the road. I was fascinated by this!

We stopped outside this building because it had cool architecture but I cannot remember if it had any special significance. It is the Capitana General.

Our first real stop on our tour (walking tour) was Plaza de Espana. This plaza is featured in many movies, such as Star Wars.

We learned a little bit about the history of the plaza and then we had time to walk around and enjoy ourselves. Here are just some of the pictures that I took while in the plaza.

After the Plaza de Espana we continued on our tour to the Cathedral in Seville. On the way we saw 2 Starbucks (there aren't ANY in Granada) and street performers  The roads are also filled with horse and buggy rides, which is very popular for the tourists in Sevilla. We did not get to go on them because they are probably too expensive and not worth it for such a large group.

When we got to the Cathedral, we were all blown away by the great attention to detail on the outside of the building.

Later on in the day, we would eventually climb to the top of this tower!

When we entered the Cathedral, we waited in the courtyard before going on. There was a lot of green space and the floors had gaps in them. As are a lot of buildings in Spain, this building used to be an Arabic one, but was later converted into a cathedral.

When we finally entered the Cathedral, it was massive! Lots of attention to detail and the organs amazed me. I just took a bunch of pictures of everything and I'm not exactly sure what it all means, but here are some of the pictures!

After walking around through the Cathedral, it was time to climb the tower (pictured above). Climbing it consisted of 35 ramps and 17 steps at the top. It was designed like this because when the Christians took the building they thought that there were too many steps so they made ramps. This also allowed for horses to be able to walk up easier.

When we finished walking to the top of the tower, taking our pictures, and walking back down, it was time for lunch! We ate right outside the Cathedral and then we went to Starbucks. Because Starbucks didn't have what I wanted, and they were over priced, Michael and I went to Burger King and I got a chocolate sundae (Sandy con chocolate) and Michael got a burger and fries! It was awesome to have American food, comfort food.

After lunch it was time to continue on our tour. Next stop, the Real Alcazar. This was a park and in our words, a mini Alhambra. It had a palace that was nice but it was nothing in comparison to the Alhambra. There also were peacocks that were in the park running around free!

Once we got through the garden, we stopped at a place where they used to bathe.

We then got to the palace. Here are a few shots from that!

We had finished our walking tour! It had just started to rain, so perfect timing there and we returned back to our hotel. Rachael and I were rooming with Katie for the night and we all tried to go back to take a nap and then eventually to study. Neither of those two things really got accomplished. I ended up taking a long and enjoyable shower (without having to hold the shower head) and it was relaxing! I felt squeaky clean afterwards, a feeling I haven't felt in a while. Rachael and I then went to the grocery store across the street to get a few things for evening!

It was then dinner time and we met in the downstairs lobby of the hotel. We walked for about 4 blocks to the restaurant that we were going to be eating at, and German had called ahead so it was all supposed to be organized. We would be getting tapas, in larger portions, to share amongst our table. We started off with bread. Gotta love the bread! :) The first tapa that came out what french fries with a mayonnaise and barbecue like sauce, very good! The second tapa was fried eggplant with sugar cane syrup, but only 3 of those were ordered, so my table didn't get that. Instead, we got stuffed mushrooms, which had jam and a sauce. They were very very good. The next dish that everyone got was a puree of vegetables and it was awesome! I ate that like it was going out of business soon. For some protein, calamari was brought out and it was to die for! The perfect amount of frying and the perfect amount of chewy-ness. Next they brought out a potato salad that had imitation crab and egg in it, it was pretty good but we were all starting to get full. The final dish was pork with a bleu cheese sauce. Once again, very good but we were reaching our limit in our stomachs.

As we were eating we were watching Real Madrid play Milan in soccer and it was an awesome game. The whole table got into the game and we were all oohing and aahing at every play. Real Madrid ended up winning 4-2.

After dinner we returned back to the hotel and we hung out the rest of the night. Rachael and I went up to Ian, Alex, and Adrian's room to hang out and drink our screwdrivers! Eventually other people showed up as well with their drinks. It was a fun group bonding experience and fun in general :)

** When we got back to the room Rachael and I sat in the bathroom and ate our potato chips because we did not want to wake up Katie. It was pretty hilarious!
